The Sony BDP-S570 Gives You High Quality Blu-Ray Plus 3D Compatibility

May 27, 2010

The Sony BDP-S570 is well worth looking at if you are interested in picking up a Blu-ray player with 3D compatibility. There is no other player in its price range that offers this ability.

The Blu-ray image quality is first-rate and you will be well pleased with the play of most of your Blu-ray movies, if not all of them. You might notice slight jagged edges on video-based Blu-rays. However, these are quite slight. DVDs play similarly to the Blu-rays: image quality is excellent on those based on film while a bit less so on those that are video-based.

The player is extremely fast, part of which is due to its quick start mode. A really nice plus is the ability to load movies that have complicated menus quickly. We have all had what feels like an agonizing wait for one of those to load so we can get to the actual movie. It is also really fast when jumping from chapter to chapter which is great if you have a habit of wanting to get to your favorite scene quickly.

The player comes with many features such as WiFi and streaming media services like Amazon VOD, YouTube and Netflix. Sony will also be coming out with their own video on demand service. At this point, Netflix streaming is not handled as well as it should be and comes through with some stuttering. It is better if accessed through a wired rather than wireless connection.

JPEG photos, music files and a wide array of video files are supported. Also supported are DTS and high-resolution Dolby audio formats. HDMI as used in 3D Blu-ray and SACD are supported as well.

The design is a sleek black with buttons for the front panel controls that are small yet easy to use. Also in front is a USB port. The remote is well laid-out and easy to use as well. It is also possible to control the player using an iPhone which is handy when you want to enter text. At this point, however, the screen on the phone does not quite match what is on screen so this is still a work in progress.

You will find on the back panel, in addition to the HDMI port, digital audio outputs (coaxial and optical), component and composite audio and video ports, and an Ethernet port. You will also find an additional USB port.

You will find it easy to navigate through the different player menus. When you use the player for the first time, an Easy Setup guide will assist you through the settings. Further adjustments can be made to the general system settings and more by using the Setup page. You can also set the player up to install firmware updates automatically.

As a reasonably priced 3D Blu-ray player, the Sony BDP-S570 is one that you should consider. Although there are some things that could use minor tweaking, it still offers great value for an excellent quality player.
